PNPC was founded in March 2012 by the four shareholders namely SK Engineering and Construction (SK E&C), Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding PCL. (RATCH) , and Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE). The Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy project marked a significant investment in the hydropower sector in the Southern part of Laos and will have a capacity of 410 MW. 

 

The location of the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Hydroelectric Power Plant Project is in Attapue and Champasak provinces, Laos. In this project, 1,000 MCM of water received from Houay Makchan and Xe-Pian Dam will be stored in Xe-Namnoy Dam. The dams are situated on the Bolaven Plateau while the power plants are built at the base. The flow of water from the height of 630 meters enables the generating of electricity. The water will then be discharged into Xe Kong River.

 

The Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Hydroelectric Power Plant Project has been developed under the power development cooperation scheme among Laos, Thailand and Korea aiming to generate and mainly distribute electricity to EGAT to secure the country's increasing power demand. The project has scheduled to dispatch electricity by 2018 through EGAT's 500 kV transmission system in Ubon Ratchathani province, while the rest will be sold to Electricite Du Laos to respond to an increase in power demand in Laos. 

 

The power development cooperation of this project is also highly targeted to facilitate, boost the growing economy and social development in Laos, as well as improve living conditions of the local residents nearby.
